Drug Smuggler Renae Lawrence who spent 13 years in a Bali prison has finally returned home.

Renae Lawrence was caught in Bali Airport with 2.7kg of heroin strapped to her body in 2005.

She was part of a group of nine caught smuggling drugs into Australia, of which two were sentenced to death.

Lawrence was initially given a life sentence, but this was reduced to 20 years on appeal, and then six more years were removed for good behaviour.

Her sentence was commuted earlier this month and she was released and deported overnight.

ABC reports Lawrence landed in Brisbane at 5am (local time) on Thursday and was quickly surrounded by media.

She did not answer any reporters’ questions in English, just muttering a few quiet words in Indonesian.

Lawrence spoke to Bali’s justice chief Maryoto Sumadi shortly before her release, and said she was scared but okay.

She still faces charges in Australia relating to a car theft in Sydney and a high-speed case that ensued.

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton said she will not be getting any leniency due to the jail time served overseas.

“It doesn’t give you credit when you get back to Australia,” he told Sky News.

“If you’ve committed offences in our country, you need to face the justice system here.”
