It had been fitted for Alexys’ wheelchair-bound brother Jack, then aged 11, who suffers from rare neuro-degenerative disease Langerhans cell histiocytosis.

The tragic five-year-old had been going down in the lift to the first floor when she became trapped on August 13, 2015.

Firefighters and paramedics were scrambled to cut the youngster free but were sadly unable to save her.

An inquest into Alexys’ death has been put off until at least May next year to allow for the prosecution.

HSE has carried out a thorough investigation and conducted interviews before making a decision to prosecute.

A spokesman said: “The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is prosecuting Synergy Housing Limited, Aster Property Limited and Orona Limited for breaches of Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
