Joanne Pascarelli, 61, and Marie Wilson, and, 67, are facing charges after they handed themselves in over the theft of $478,588 (£375,000) after warrants were issued for their arrests.

Police said that they stole the money from Saxe Middle School and New Canaan High School in Connecticut between 2012 and 2017 before turning themselves in at New Canaan police station.

The two have been charged with larceny and defrauding a public community. Board of Education officials did not reply to a request for comment. An attorney for Wilson says she is innocent and is ‘not going to be scapegoated.’

The sisters have been released after each posted a $50,000 bond, and will be in court later in August. An attorney for Pascarelli could not be identified.
