SARAH Jane Palmer, 31, was told she had to sleep in the hospital hallway due to a lack of beds, but awoke to find she was being assaulted.
CCTV footage showed nurses and security walking by oblivious as 26-year-old David Cabero touched her breast and put his tongue in her mouth. He was found guilty of sexual assault this week.
The nurse sought medical treatment after mixing alcohol with her prescription medication, and now plans to sue the hospital.
Waiving her right to anonymity, she told the Daily Mail: “A hospital is somewhere you should feel safe and be looked after.
“I was clearly vulnerable but was left alone to be sexually assaulted under the watch of staff including nurses and security.
“It felt like I had been abandoned.”
David Cabero, 26, was found guilty of sexual assault on Wednesday.
Shocking CCTV footage shown during Cabero’s trial showed nurses, patients and even security guards walking past the scene without realising what was happening.
He admitted he had been on a ‘two day bender’ at the time of the attack, and admitting kissing Sarah Jane but denied any touching was sexual.
The former cleaner, now unemployed, told police: “Some parts of her eyes were open, some were closed.
“If she had told me ‘Don’t’ I would have been, like, OK, of course. I’m a gentleman.”
A hospital trust spokesman said: “We reiterate our apologies to the victim.
“We notified the police as soon as the allegation was made and assisted with their investigation, as well as undertaking our own.
“We would like to reassure our patients that this was an isolated incident.
Sarah Jane said she has not received a formal written apology from the hospital, or any information about their investigation into the crime.
