According to the statistics, 6.1 million people are currently unemployed – 27.2% of the population. The overall unemployment rate for men is 25.3% and women have a rate of 29.5%.

Female unemployment

Black women have the highest unemployment rate at 33.2%. Coloured women are second with 22.9% unemployment, followed by Asian/Indian women at 12.2%. White females have the lowest unemployment rate of women and men of all races at 7.4%.

Male unemployment

Black men reached an unemployment rate of 28.2%, followed by coloured men who stand at 23.6%. Indian/Asian men have a significantly lower unemployment rate of 9.4% and white males stand at 8.5%.
